Kentucky has never been kind to the Shadow Lords. From its earliest days of being a Croatan, then an Uktena, then a Fianna, then a Silver Fang controlled protectorate, Shadow Lords haven’t really found themselves as a welcome addition to the region; either in the mortal or the Garou communities. While there has usually been at least some presence in the area, it is often limited to a single family at a time that is tolerated. There was a minor explosion of Shadow Lord kinfolk and Garou almost a century ago now, but most of those have moved on, leaving only the rare kinfolk or Garou in their wake that are quickly picked up by another tribe. All of that has begun to change recently.
While the Eastern European leadership of the tribe are still not particularly welcome within the halls of the protectorate, although they aren’t specifically excluded either, the majority of the Shadow Lords that are found within the area come from those that were early immigrants to the “New World” and were dealing with the tribal issues far to the South of the protectorate. As those areas of the world are being crippled under the heels of the vampires, the kinfolk and Garou are fleeing to find a stable base of operations in which to build back up and strike back at the Wyrm. So, it is that the Latino populations of the Shadow Lords have found themselves arriving within the Bloodied Hunting Ground Protectorate. Unfortunately, this means that the Shadow Lords were showing up to find that most of their kinfolk that were moving to the area were marrying into the local Uktena. Begrudgingly, the Shadow Lords have entered into an alliance of a sorts with the Uktena.
Forced into an alliance that nobody wishes to see happen, having to try and politic when you are an outcast from the beginning, and having no real support system to get yourself into the upper echelons of Garou society, the Shadow Lords in the protectorate have practically replaced the Bone Gnawers as the bottom of the local societal rung. Then again, when you’re a tribe that has no problem doing whatever it takes to win, having people ignore you because you’re at the bottom isn’t necessarily a bad thing. And it isn’t like Shadow Lords are used to having political cover for anything they do anyway. The situation is just ripe for someone to come along and rise. At least, that’s what the leadership seems to think as they strive for greatness.
The Shadow Lord kinfolk in the area are members of the local Latino communities. This does mean that, especially after the alliance was made with the Uktena, that there are some difficulties in figuring out exactly who is and is not a kinfolk of the Shadow Lords or the Uktena. Then again, that too has its advantages that the local Shadow Lords are willing to attempt to exploit when it meets their needs. However, they never push the issue too far. As they say, “Don’t bite the hand that feeds,” and right now, that hand is an Uktena hand that is helping them gain their foothold in the region. This has also had a dramatic impact upon the manner in which the Shadow Lords of the region do things. The Eastern European flair which makes up the majority of the rituals, holidays, and observances of the Shadow Lord tribe have been replaced with those that lean more towards Central American and Uktena influences.
Currently, the Shadow Lords are pushing for two main goals within the region. They are content to play the long game in the first one, although the second is both more pressing and at the same time far more secretive. Primarily, they are attempting to gain a foothold on the region. The Protectorate of the Bloodied Hunting Grounds is at the forefront of the war against the Wyrm. Sure, big cities may claim that all the time, but this is where the Wyrm unleashes things it cannot hide within urban areas, where Thunderwyrms may rise to the surface, where fomori that are too twisted for cities are bred. This is where leaders for the future will gain a name for themselves, and the Shadow Lords plan on being on there to get what they are owed; a place to challenge the leadership of the Nation from its own backyard.
