The Children of Gaia within Kentucky are not in a happy place. At one point in time, they were one of the most powerful tribes in the region and all the others were forced to acknowledge them in every major undertaking that happened within the protectorate. In fact, it was only just a mere five years ago that the King of the protectorate was forced to come and personally request the aid of Martin Chandler. Now, they have become the example of exactly what not to do as a tribe. The majority of the Children of Gaia within the region have found themselves claiming the Sept of the Moon Bow as their home, down in the South Eastern part of the state. Not too long ago, that small Sept was growing large enough to be able to almost rival the Sept of Stag’s Heart. Then came the trouble with the Get of Fenris.
Most Garou consider the Children of Gaia and the Get of Fenris to be opposing sides, and in many cases, they are right. However, within the Bloodied Hunting Ground, the Children of Gaia embraced the appearance of the Black Unicorn heavily. Willing to suddenly respond to the violence of the Get of Fenris with violence of their own in the name of seeking peace, the Children of Gaia soon won enough challenges and confrontations to practically cripple the Germanic Garou in the region. Riding high upon this success, and following the leadership of their elders, the Children of Gaia began to look South to the cesspools that were developing as the Wyrm gained more and more control over the region. It was then that the Children of Gaia planned an assault and pulled the majority of their political influence to bring the entire protectorate with them. What resulted from this folly has cost them everything they once had. They are once more reduced to being the opposite side of the Get of Fenris; a beaten and broken tribe that allowed their own hubris and way of thinking to drag them under.
The majority of Children of Gaia in the region remember what it was like; storming into the very heart of the Wyrm’s control, fighting tooth and nail and watching everyone near you die in horrible agony, barely holding the ground you gained while more bodies (Garou and kinfolk alike) were pushed forward to fill the gaps, the counter-attack that almost cost the entire region the Moon Bow Caern... It is easy to see those that were there for the war that was fought: the thousand-yard stares, the missing body parts, the drooped shoulders, the hung heads. Harano chases the tribe now, and despite the years since the war, it remains as a dark cloud hanging over the tribe. There are a few new outsiders that have come into the region in an attempt to heal that which is broken. They soon find that there are problems beyond merely being the survivors of a war that nobody realized was going to be as bloody as it was in the end. They are immediately discounted and lumped in with the Children of Gaia veterans of those battles. What was seen as the glories of the Fianna Alliance is the Children’s Folly.
The dread, misery, and depression of the Children of Gaia has spread to their kinfolk as well. Even those who were not practically drafted as support for the Garou in the war were kept behind to serve as medics and message runners. They saw first hand what had happened… To make matters even worse, recent events in the mortal world have made the areas around the Sept of the Moon Bow even more economically depressed. Suffering from a war that was barely won, with no money, no hospitals, no economy, and not much in the way of good farmlands, Unicorn’s kinfolk are hurting. Only time will tell if there will be a recovery or if the days for the Children of Gaia within the Bloodied Hunting Grounds are numbered, and the kinfolk know it. It is written on their faces. They’ve lost, and it is only a matter of time before they are traded, bartered, or taken by the other tribes.
For now, the Children of Gaia hold onto what remains of the sept which they retain some semblance of control over. However, it is a tenuous grasp at best. They have lost the respect of those that they once called equals, they have lost the numbers to defend their territory, and they have lost the heart to keep going. Their leaders are beaten and broken, and their cubs are left to squander and struggle in the absence of anything resembling what the once proud tribe stood as the model.
