The vast majority of the TT book is just fine playing in an online game, but as with many things, some of the timing rules break down when ported into a format that is a game which runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year. The following are the changes to timing which must be done in order to adapt the rules as written for an online game.
Turn: This stays the same. Effects that take one turn, or last for only one turn, remain unchanged.
Scene: Scenes are a nebulous thing in Werewolf and are always shifting. As a general rule, anything that says it lasts for a scene lasts for an hour. The exception to this are ST run "scenes." In these situations, the entire time spent running that plot may take place in a single scene. It may change through several scenes. The rule is, if there is a time lapse or a dramatic change in location, you have entered into a new scene. (Activating a gift at the Moon Bow bawn, before driving to Louisville, means the gift will not be active when you arrive in Louisville. That is a four hour drive, and a very different location. Activating a gift in the Stag's Heart bawn while walking into the Caern Heart has no lapse in time and is generally going to be the same location. If you're not sure, ask a Storyteller.)
Session: Many gifts, backgrounds, fetishes, etc. state that they are usable "Once per session" or that they are active "for the entire session." These powers are once a week. There's just no other way to deal with them. So, once per week, you may use a once per session ability or power.
Week: A week is a week is a week. Please note somewhere that a week long ability has begun, so that we know when it ends. A week is seven full days. Activate on Wednesday at 12:00 GMT, it lasts until Wednesday at 12:00 GMT. If you must do something every day for a week, there needs to be a Downtime Action used.
Month: A month is a month is a month. If you have to do something every day for a month, there had best be some Downtime Actions used on that to make sure it happens. Otherwise, there are no changes.
A Lunar Cycle: This will also count as a month. We are aware that they don't line up perfectly, but our Downtime Action system is based on months, and most things that must happen every day for a full lunar cycle will need a Downtime Action.
Story: This is another one of those vague things that is easy to do in a table top setting, but is a lot more difficult in a chat setting. As a general rule, anything that is once per story or lasts for a story, will last for three months. The exception to this is things associated with plot arcs that are specifically meant to last for much longer periods of time. (For example: Using a once per story thing on a personal plot arc that will take at least 5 scenes to finish. Players only get one scene request per month and unless others are willing to use their scene requests on your plot, there is no way for that story to be resolved within a three month span. In those situations, ask a Storyteller and they will be able to give you some guidance. It is entirely possible that they won't mind you using a power or ability again in an unrelated story arc if the initial three months have passed.)
A Year: Much like days and weeks and months, a year is a year. Time moves just as slowly for garou sometimes.
