The Fianna have a long and historic presence within Kentucky, and especially within central Kentucky where the Sept of Stag’s Heart was located. While the caern itself is dominated population wise by the Fianna, with more of their kinfolk locally than practically any two other tribes combined, they don’t hold the throne itself for the protectorate. The stories themselves are hazy and depending upon who you ask there are different beginnings and even more different endings to the tale, but what has been confirmed is that the Fianna did not create the Sept that they now practically control, and they do not actually control the Sept, either. That role defaults to the Silver Fangs when they deign to show up and make their presence known to the little people of the Sept. While this doesn’t sit well with a number of the younger Fianna that have grown up in or moved into the region, the will of the elders is absolute: The Silver Fangs are the lords of the protectorate of the Bloodied Hunting Grounds and their throne sits within Stag’s Heart.
That being said, the Fianna in the region share a great deal of political and social power within the region. Not only do they have the numbers, depending upon who you ask, they are the head of a political alliance that is strong enough in the region that it has not been challenged successfully in recent memory, and no Fianna seems willing to risk that alliance for now. The rumors about how the alliance started, and who really holds all the cards within the alliance, are numerous, and uncharacteristically for their tribe, none of the Fianna are talking. What is known is that, when it comes to power in the region, you don’t actually come against a member of the Fianna’s alliance without expecting a fight.
The Fianna kinfolk in the region are an oddity, even among a tribe that has been supposedly touched by the fae. Many blame the alliance for this, as it is difficult to tell where exactly the human Fianna kinfolk end and the Bone Gnawers begin. Then again, in a region as economically depressed as Appalachia and Central Kentucky, it is difficult to tell where any tribe ends, and the Bone Gnawers begin. That being said, there are few within the Protectorate of the Bloodied Hunting Grounds who would dare attempt to take a mate, or get married, without at least getting the Fianna’s permission first. While they have never directly punished anyone from other tribes for getting married without their permission, the vast numbers of Fianna kinfolk mean that those who tend to not grant the tribe at least this minor honor soon find themselves losing favor and having less and less of a place within the Protectorate until the slight against the tribe has been corrected. There are even stories of some kinfolk families from other tribes that have become lost in the region, simply because they were slowly pushed farther and farther from the Garou life by the Fianna for slights that date back centuries concerning who was courting who at the time.
Anywhere in the world you travel, people are told that there are certain things that are not to be trifled with; metis, alcohol, songs. While those are important in Central Kentucky, there is one that stands above all of them; the McKinneys. Originally part of Boone’s exploration of the Appalachians and among the first to settle in the region, the McKinney Family always has and always will be a force to be reckoned with. In just shear numbers, they have the kinfolk, they have the Garou, they have the land, they have the power. Even the Silver Fangs that rule over the protectorate will defer in many matters to the current leader of the McKinney Clan, although why this happens is often a matter of debate within the protectorate. Some say it is because the Fangs need the McKinneys to hold Stag’s Favor, others say it is because the McKinneys are the real rulers and the Fangs are merely puppet kings, while still more say it is because of a secret alliance between the McKinneys and the Kincaids.
