The Bloodied Hunting Ground Protectorate is many different things to many different Garou, but to the children of Cockroach it is a nightmare, a veritable Hell on Earth. Kentucky is a place where over 40% of the state is classified as forest. More than 30% of the acreage of the state is protected lands. The Commonwealth is ranked 37th in the United States for internet access; not just broadband access, internet access. Over half of the state has income averages at less than a third of the national average. Economically depressed, with no access to the GWNet, in a state where the Wyld reigns supreme; this is not the kind of place that the Glasswalkers call a welcoming land. Still, there are those that make the attempt, and they cling to the four major business centers within the area.
Historically, there has been a rather large contingent of Glass Walkers in the area. At least, if you look far enough back into history. Over a hundred years ago the Sept was full of Glasswalkers. The other tribes could hardly move without bumping into one. Back then the protectorate was on the cutting edge of science, discovery, adventure, everything that the Glass Walkers look towards in humanity. But, as is always the case, humanity kept moving onward. Part of that movement meant that the focus of the world continued to move Westward. What was once called the Athens of the West is now merely a small University town with little import to humanity. What was once the largest Railroad interchange outside of the Chicago now doesn’t even have a station yard. What was once the largest limestone quarry in the United States now rents out the caverns that were carved as a storage space for companies and corporations.
Thus, it has been with the tribe as a whole. As the focus of humanity left the region behind, so did the Glass Walkers, and they have never looked back. After all, they aren’t a tribe that looks back towards their ancestry and past. All that matters is the future. All that matters is advancement. There isn’t any of that within the region anymore. Why settle for a place that has little connection to the outside world when you could be in the middle of all that is happening. What remains in the area are two small organizations of the Glass Walkers; one an aging group that for whatever reason have refused to really advance beyond the days of old, working in the various rail yards that remain within the region; some of which are even still rather lucrative to those who know what they’re doing. The others are a small contingent of corporate wolves that work and manage aspects of the horse industry. After all, what are Garou if not a blending of Wyld and Weaver, why shouldn’t they then use the Weaver to make a living from the Wyld nature of the thoroughbreds. However, as Miles Frank Yount discovered when he attempted to move into the region and help the local Glasswalkers, outsiders are never trusted, even from among the tribe.
There are still a rather large contingent of Glasswalker kinfolk in the area; although nobody is sure exactly how many. However, what is known is that there are no Glasswalker Garou in the area. This means that, when another undergoes a first change they are absorbed into the other tribes that are present without anyone really knowing any different, simply because the tribe doesn’t particularly have the presence in the area to do anything. The majority of Glasswalker kinfolk within the protectorate don’t even know they are kinfolk. They have nothing to do with the Septs, the Garou, or anything else and merely live their lives until the random lost cub is born.
In short, the Glasswalkers that are members of the protectorate are not a political factor in any decision that is made. They are not a factor in any military decision that is made. They are a very small minority that is easily overlooked by the others, because they lack the actual strength, the political strength, or the numbers to impact the goings on of anything within the region’s Garou. Then again, nobody knows what tomorrow will bring. Perhaps the fact that the city in the middle of the protectorate was recently rated as one of the Top 10 places to headquarter your business will change things soon. Only time will tell.
