Kentucky, and the Bloodied Hunting Ground Protectorate are oddities when it comes to the Red Talon tribe. At one point in time, it seemed inevitable that the tribe would be almost completely wiped out from the state, as the lupus kinfolk populations were completely wiped out save for those few living within the bawns of the larger caerns. Then an alliance was made. The leading members of the Last Tribe came to an agreement with leaders of the Fianna and the Bone Gnawers. Today, the wolf population in Kentucky is starting to explode beyond what it is out in places like Wyoming. In a state with 49 protected state parks, 3 national forests, and a federal park, all while barely making up over 1% of the total land mass in the United States, the wilderness areas abound. This hasn’t gone unnoticed by those who would rather not see the population flourish. The Red Talons and Glass Walkers have openly clashed in recent years, and even the Fianna and Bone Gnawers have had to step in to reign in the Last Tribe when the farm owners of Central Kentucky begin to take action against the wolf populations to protect the multi-billion dollar industry that the horse trade is within the state.
That being said, not even the Fianna or Bone Gnawers are willing to openly challenge the reign of the Red Talons in their territories to the western edge of the protectorate. Where the Red Talons hold control, their word is absolute law, and everybody knows it. In turn, the Red Talons as a tribe are well aware of what isn’t their territory, and defer almost exclusively to the Fianna and Bone Gnawers in those areas, even if it isn’t necessarily their territory either. This has created an uneasy balance to the manner in which things are done within the protectorate. Any who challenge the Fianna or Bone Gnawers soon find themselves the enemies of the Red Talons’ ire, which is a position few willingly place themselves, while those who attempt to play political games against the Red Talons soon find themselves dealing with the Fianna and Bone Gnawers defending the Last Tribe. This has created a rather interesting effect on the local politics of the protectorate; between the three or perhaps because of the Red Talon influence, politics has taken on an even more animalistic, primal, and rage filled quality that tends to make many outsiders wary.
When it comes to kinfolk for the Red Talons, there are predominately two wolf populations that are used for breeding; two small packs of grey wolves that are the exclusive property of the tribal leadership, and numerous red wolves that are often intermingled in the few Fianna populations in the protectorate. This means that there are more than a few of the local Red Talons that actually are distantly related to some of the Fianna in the area, which has further cemented the Red Talons’ place within the alliance that was formed between the three tribes.
The Red Talons themselves see themselves as the keepers of the stability in the region. While those to the North of the protectorate struggle with the ways in which the Wyrm has found a way to infiltrate the cities and those to the South struggle with its unbridled restraint in the Wyld places, there is relatively little presence in the Bloodied Hunting Ground Protectorate. The Last Tribe sees this as a testament to the alliance that they are members of, and anything which threatens the stability of that alliance or the region itself soon finds itself being throated by the oversized wolves from the west. Under the leadership of Furnace Beneath the Mountain, this image has only grown more and more. The last kinfolk to suggest that the Red Talons were acting improperly in the region soon found himself no longer capable of thinking anything, and it is rumored that pieces of that kinfolk are now fetishes that are used by Furnace Beneath the Mountain. This is the way of the Red Talons in the region. Individuals are given fair warning. If it is ignored, the Last Tribe will deal with the situation in their own way, and pay the costs later. And after seeing the benefits of letting the Red Talons do as they do, none have been willing to really stand against them in this. Especially not their allies.
