In order to gain or lose renown, the garou must be acknowledged by their elders as having accomplished some task worth gaining renown. To that end, renown will only be awarded once a month at the Moot. Additionally, renown will not always follow what is listed in the books. If the elders have a negative view towards someone, they will earn less renown. If the elders don’t believe an action should be worth renown, it will not earn renown. (There is a reason there aren’t a whole lot of Glasswalker Elders in Red Talon Caerns, or high ranking Metis in general.)
Specifically, all renown gains listed in the book will have the following penalties applied to them:
Fosterns gain 1 less than the amount listed.
Adrens gain 2 less than the amount listed.
Athros gain 3 less than the amount listed.
Elders gain 4 less than the amount listed.
(No, the Athro doesn’t get renown for going out and dropping a bunch of tainted scrags. He’s expected to be able to do that with his eyes closed. That isn’t impressive and is actually just sad that he’s asking for credit for it instead of passing that on to the Cliaths.)
This calculation will take place after all relevant modifiers have been factored in. (Example: An Adren defeats a bane-infested animal without any garou, other than himself, taking damage. The Adren will gain a single point of Glory Renown. [2 points for defeating the bane, +1 for no other garou being hurt, and -2 for being an adren.])
Renown threads may have responses to them from TWO sources, the staff and the player of that character. If you believe that someone else has taken an action which is deserving of negative renown, report it to the STs who will examine the situation and make a determination.
You may volunteer your own negative renown, and this is highly recommended. If it is discovered at a later date that you did not report your own negative renown, you will face the renown loss for the original action as well as potentially other renown losses for being deceptive, cowardly, etc. There may also be in-character responses from NPCs and spirits, to be determined by the staff.
